Ralph Snyderman, MD, a long-time dean of the Duke School of Medicine, is joining venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates as a venture partner.

Snyderman will become part of the firm’s healthcare team.

New Enterprise Associates is based in Menlo Park, CA.

“Ralph is an exceptional and accomplished physician whose contributions have been instrumental to the transformation of our nation’s academic health system,” said Mike Raab, a NEA Partner, in a statement. “Ralph has a keen understanding of biotechnology and its ability to improve healthcare. His experiences range from basic biomedical research through the challenges of drug development to healthcare delivery, making him an ideal venture partner.”

Snyderman, who has also been an executive with the biotech firm Genetech, was chancellor of health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine at Duke from 1989 through July of 2004. He also served as president and chief executive officer of the Duke University Health System.
