EarthLink will utilize gear from Motorola for the first five cities where it plans to deploy city-wide wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) broadband networks.
EarthLink has been awarded approval to deploy Wi-Fi networks in Philadelphia and Anaheim, CA.
Motorola will install and provide system integration and support for the Earthlink projects. Wi-Fi antenna will be installed on city light poles. The networks are for both consumers and business users. Motorola will utilize Wi-Fi gear from Tropos Networks as part of the project.
“Our collaboration with Motorola and Tropos enables EarthLink to build state-of-the-art wireless networks that will provide these municipalities with low cost, high speed broadband access for residential and business customers, visitors and city employees,” said Donald Berryman, president of EarthLink’s Municipal Networks Division. “This Wi-Fi solution opens the door to consumers that want inexpensive and ubiquitous access to the Internet on their own terms.”
