Bruce Weir, director of the bioinformatics research center at North Carolina State University, was part of an international scientific team that recently completed a “map” of the human genome.

The scientists believe the “haploltype” map could lead to the discovery of the genetic causes for diseases such as diabetes and Alzheimer’s. The map specifics genetic differences between people.

More than 60 scientists were involved in the project. Their findings were published in the Oct. 27 issue of Nature.
