FCC Gives Approval for Phone Company Mergers

WASHINGTON,The Federal Communications Commission approved the mergers of four major telephone companies as expected on Monday.

SBC merges with AT*T and takes on the AT&T name. SBC is BellSouth’s partner in ownership of Cingular wireless.

Also, Verizon takes over MCI but will keep the Verizon name.
