BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) reported earnings of 44 cents a share, or $817 million, on Wednesday.
Wall Street analysts had predicted 46 cents.
Earnings were flat compared to the same quarter in 2004.
If results from Cingular and billing credits related to Hurricane Katrina were included, BellSouth said earnings would have been 46 cents.
