IBM is making additional donations to the Eclipse Foundation, an open-source group.
The contribution of what IBM (NYSE: IBM) calls “key intellectual assets” is part of an effort to “help companies and software practitioners adopt and share best practices for software development”.
The assets are from the IBM rational unified process, a software platform that IBM says is used by half a million software developers.
“RUP is a vast collection of methods and best practices for promoting quality and efficiency throughout software development projects,” IBM said.
IBM is making the contribution to the Eclipse Foundation, which was formed in 2001 and includes participation from more than 100 companies.
