Lulu, a publisher that works with authors to publish books independently from the traditional publishing process, is offer a series of cash prizes for titles related to blogs or web sites.

The “Blooker” prizes take their names from “blooks”, the term used for blog-based books.

Lulu is opening the contest to international writers and will offer a $2,000 przie for the overall winner. Another $1,000 will be awarded in two other categories. The contest will cover non-fiction, fiction and web comics.

Authors who have published by conventional publishing as well as independently are eligible. Cory Doctorow, a London-based science-fiction author and blogger co-editor of BoingBoing, will be among the judges.

Other judges include Robin “Roblimo” Miller of Slashdot and Paul Jones, founder
of iBiblio.org.

Winners will be announced on April 6, 2006.
