The University of North Carolina System is one of several institutions to allow Napster to offer its subscription-based music service across their networks.
The University of California (UC) and Cal State University (CSU) have also signed on for the offering, Napster said in a statement.
Napster launched the university offering in 2004, working with Penn State University and the University of Rochester.
“By enabling schools to offer students easy access to an immersive, legal digital music experience, the program facilitates campus reduction of high bandwidth costs and network security threats that are often caused by rampant use of illegal
peer-to-peer services,” Napster said.
The UNC system includes 16 universities across the state.
