Cingular and Musicland are teaming up to offer phone and digital media services in more than 400 Sam Goody and Media Play outlets operated by Musicland.

Musicland will offer Cingular’s GoPhone prepaid phone products.

Stores will also offer digital and wireless devices, including phones, devices for downloading music, sharing photos and other multimedia applications.

The Cingular phones will be available starting in October.

“As Musicland expands its product offerings to include relevant lifestyle categories, such as wireless, it’s important to align with industry leaders that share our vision and have the capacity to bring our ideas to life,” said Musicland Chief Executive Officer Eric Weisman. “The agreement with Cingular is the first in a series of strategic partnerships indicating our aggressive expansion of the category.”

The companies said their focus would be young people.

“Musicland will be a strong addition to Cingular’s world class distribution network,” said Glenn Lurie, president of National Distribution at Cingular. “Offering our products in Musicland’s stores will play a significant role in Cingular’s leadership in attracting the youth segment and creating new growth opportunities through innovative sales and marketing approaches.”
