Internet Service Provider EarthLink is offering additional tools for users to localize their “start page” with more local information.

The “myEarthLink” start page has added search information from Google and news from Topix.net.

The local search tool combines Google search capabilities with Yellow Pages data, EarthLink said.

The local news tool is provided by Topix.net, which gathers information from more than 10,000 news sources ranging from newspapers to web blogs.

“Receiving local news at the zip code level and finding local search results are the latest examples of how we are helping myEarthLink users personalize their Internet experience,” said Tom Andrus, EarthLink’s vice president of web properties. “With Google and Topix.net, myEarthLink is making time spent on the web more productive and relevant.”

Local news is provided to each myEarthLink user based on zip codes, and users can track news from as many as five cities, EarthLink added.
