WINSTON-WinstonNet, a non-profit community technology initiative established in 2001, has been awarded a $40,000 grant from Cisco Systems Foundation.

The grant will be used to further the group’s efforts to implement and support community computer labs for the residents of Forsyth County.

WinstonNet labs provide technology applications with computer support specifically focused on individuals who do not have access to computer technology.

Currently, WinstonNet has 40 community computer labs supporting more than 350 Internet-connected computers. The group provides 25 miles of fiber optic cabling connecting Winston-Salem’s academic institutions, nonprofits and city and county government.
