Cingular is spending $115 million this year to upgrade its network in North Carolina.
Cingular, which recently completed its merger with AT&T Wireless, said it would add more than 230 cell sites across the state. The expansion is part of a $6.2 billion national upgrade.
Another 120 sites will be added in South Carolina.
According to the company, the expansion is its largest since 1996.
So far this year, updates have taken place in 23 North Carolina counties, including sites in Charlotte, Huntersville, the Triangle, Sanford, Hillsborough, Rock Mount, Greenville, Murphy, and the southeast area ranging from Fayetteville to Wilmington and New Bern.
