Cingular now allows its customers to exchange photos, video and text messages with other networks’ customers.
Utilizing intercarrier multimedia messaging technology (MMS), Cingular users can connect with Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, US Cellular and Leap Wireless customers.
Individuals must have MMS-equipped phones. Some 80 percent of Cingular customers have such devices.
“Making it possible for wireless users to share pictures and video messages with family and friends, regardless of carrier, is an important step in the widespread adoption of multimedia messaging,” said Jim Ryan, vice president of Consumer Data Services for Cingular. “Cingular is excited to be delivering the full promise of wireless communication to our customers.”
