Cisco Systems is rolling out a web portal this week that it hopes will help more young students become interested in math and science careers as well as education in general.

The site is called Packetville, and it features Peter and Penny Packet characters who are intended to help students explore and enjoy the Internet with a variety of games and other interactive content.

Packetville is focused on users ages 8 to 14.

“Gaming is an exciting learning tool, and can be highly effective, depending on the audience and content,” said Marcia Sitcoske, senior director of the Creative Learning Studios at Cisco. “The educational and interactive games in Packetville engage students and provide an entertaining learning experience.”

Packetville also has resources for parents and educators such as teaching aids and lesson plans.
