JBoss, a developer of open source solutions, is releasing the 2.0 version of its JBoss Portal software designed to support both web services and J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition).

To oversee the release, JBoss said it had named Pierre Fricke, a former IBM executive, as director of product management. Frickey most recently served as a research vice president for application and integration at IDEAS International. He has worked at IBM where he was involved in interoperability, integration, WebSphere, Windows NT, UNIX, Linux and open source strategy. Frickey also was an AIX developer, product manager and development manager.

“With JBoss Portal, JBoss has delivered an enterprise quality product that reflects our longstanding commitment to open source, open standards and simplified development and deployment of J2EE applications,” Fricke said in a statement.

Also on Monday, JBoss said it was simplifying Java development with the incorporation of its Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0 in several different products.
