Network Appliance, which recently launched a new operation in RTP, is buying Decru, a provider of storage security, with $272 million in cash and stock.
Net App is based in Sunnyvale CA. Decru, which is privately held, is based in Redwood City, CA.
Net App described Decru as a leader in data security encryption and access controls.
“In an era where data is a precious asset and security threats to that data are accelerating, encryption is a key element of any data infrastructure,” said Dan Warmenhoven, chief executive officer of Network Appliance, in a statement. “Recent, highly public mishaps point to the need for companies and governments to more effectively protect sensitive business, employee, partner, customer, and intelligence data. Decru has established an early lead in the data security space.”
