Cree is rolling out two new light-emitting diode chips, one of which is designed for use in digital cameras.

The MegaBright 290 Gen 2 chip uses 8 percent less power yet is 30 percent brighter than earlier chips, Cree said. It is designed for use in digital cameras, flashes for cameras, and LCD backlighting applications.

The RazerThin 230 chip also uses 8 percent less power than previous versions and is designed for use in backlighting in devices such as cellular phones.
