SAN JOSE,Nortel has deployed a converged network solution for the city of San Jose, given residents in the heart of Silicon Valley more access to city services.

The city awarded the contract to Nortel last March, and the networking firm said Thursday that the network was installed on time, on budget.

The contract called for Nortel to merge several networks into one for provision of voice, data, video and Internet Protocol-based services while also improving network security.

“We greatly appreciate this opportunity to work together with the City of San Jose to provide enhanced communications that will serve as a foundation for building closer working relationships between the City and its citizens,” said Malcolm Collins, president, of enterprise networks for Nortel. “It is a testament to our valued relationship that we delivered this network on time and on budget.”
