Gregory Hopper, a former executive at IBM and an inventor holding three patents, is the new chief operating officer for Spore, Inc., an intellectual property consulting services and software firm.

Hopper, who also was a co-founder of Netpliance that went public in 2000, will be responsible for corporate strategy and marketing. Before joining Spore, he operated Netanium Strategic Consulting. He worked 17 years for IBM.

“Greg brings a great deal of experience in corporate marketing for technology-based companies,” said JiNan Glasgow, Spore’s chief executive officer. “He is known as a creative thinker with a track record of success in predicting future trends within the tech field.”
