ALPHARETTA,First Horizon Pharmaceutical has received FDA approval for a new drug that can be used for treatment of high cholesterol, the company said Monday morning.

The new drug is called Triglide, and it will be made available in two strengths (160 mg, 50 mg).

SkyePharma PLC will manufacture the drug for First Horizon, which obtained rights to the drug from SkyePharma in May, 2004. The FDA approval triggered a $15 million payment by First Horizon to SkyePharma.

First Horizon sees Triglide as an addition to two other drugs it recently acquired for cardiovascular use — Altoprev and Fortamet.
Triglide is an orally delivered treatment for lipid disorders such as elevated cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) and triglycerides (hypertriclyceridemia).
