Internap, a provider of routing services over the Internet, is adding Voice over Internet Protocol route optimization applications to is product suite.

Internap announced the new service at the NetWorld+Interop trade show in Las Vegas.

According to Internap, the new application will enhance call quality.

“The Internap proprietary network optimization technologies, multi-network infrastructure and data center facilities have proven to be an ideal solution for companies deploying VoIP applications, as evidenced by our growing number of VoIP customers,” said Greg Peters, president and chief executive officer of Internap. “We are continuing to invest in new and innovative technologies which optimize performance-sensitive, real-time applications like VoIP.”

Internap said its own tests which simulated more than 1.5 million VoIP calls disclosed that “almost half of all VoIP calls sent over default carriers and routes were below acceptable levels of end-user call quality criteria.”
