David Kirkpatrick, co-founder of SJF Ventures, received the “practitioner of the year” award this week from the Community Development Venture Capital Alliance.
SJF has offices in Durham and Philadelphia.
Kirkpatrick is managing director of the fund, which was launched in 1999. He partnered with Rick Defieux, a venture capitalist, to launch the venture. SJF has $28.3 million under management in two funds and has 14 companies in its portfolio, which have created 1,600 jobs.
The Community Development Venture Capital Alliance includes 82 funds with $870 million under management. These firms invest in undercapitalized areas.
Three SJF portfolio firms received company honors, and Citibank Community Development, which was a founding investor in SJF, was selected investor of the year.
