Motricity is adding a new executive position and is putting a longtime telecommunications executive with substantial experience in wireless in the post.

Motricity, which closed on $27 million in venture financing last fall and is expanding its staff and management, said Tuesday that Michael Robinson would be president of its mobile content solutions group. The company recently added a chief financial officer.

Robinson has spent more than 30 years in telecommunications, including jobs with Sprint PCS, the wireless arm of Sprint. Robinson was one of the Sprint PCS founders, acting as vice president and general manager of network services. Motricity said that Robinson would be responsible for driving sales and service efforts with mobile network operators as well as managing product delivery and “scaling the business globally.”

Robinson served most recently as senior vice president of product realization for Sprint’s consumer division. He had also served as chief operating officer of Pegaso PCS, a Sprint subsidiary with 1,500 employees.

“Robinson knows what mobile operators expect from a technology partner, and will ensure that Motricity is in a position to exceed those expectations,” said Ryan Wuerch, chief executive officer and chairman of Motricity, in a statement. “He specializes in driving operational excellence and helping companies move from ‘vision’ to execution.”
