ALPHARETTA,The State of Georgia has awarded a wireless voice and data contract to Verizon. The deal covers state, local and county government agencies as well as municipalities.

Included in the offering is Verizon’s high-speed wireless data service in Metro Atlanta. It is capability of transmitting data at nearly 10 times the speed of dialup modems.

“The wireless contract is part of an effort to more efficiently obtain and effectively use wireless devices and services,” said Tom Wade, Georgia’s chief information officer. “These resources are needed at every level of government to help us stay connected and meet our goals.”
