North Carolina Governor Mike Easley is bringing in some high-powered help to assist him in business development and recruitment for the state.
Easley said Wednesday that H. Kel Landis III, the recently retired CEO of RBC Centura Banks, will serve as a “liaison” between the governor and the business community. The appointment is effective Jan. 15.
Easley has been extremely aggressive in jobs recruitment, including several high-tech and life science related ventures.
“We are witnessing changing economic times, and North Carolina must continue to transition its economy to one that is focused on skill,” Easley said in a statement. “Kel has over two decades of business experience that make his advice invaluable on strategies to continue to improve our business climate and ensure that North Carolina continues to succeed in the global marketplace.
“In addition to his business and management experience, Kel has a deep understanding of the needs of urban and rural communities.”
Landis first joined Centura Bank in 1988. He has also worked for First Union and Wachovia.
