Fourteen school districts across the country have now signed up to use curricula services from Raleigh-based Vital Source Technologies and IBM.

Vital Source is in some cases replacing textbooks with its electronic “portable library” of more than 3,000 titles, artwork, maps and classical literature. Vital Source Key is the product designed to act as the interface with the digitized material.

IBM is loading Vital Source tools on notebook and desktop PCs.

Curricula can also be customized for each district.

Selected schools in Wake County, NC, have signed on for the program. Other districts are in Tennessee, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, California, Texas, South Carolina, Alabama, and Washington state.
