Nortel is the first networking company to receive certification for technology related to the emerging Internet protocol known as IPv6.
Nortel said Tuesday that it had received certification from the interoperability laboratory operated by the University of New Hampshire. The lab is used to assess networking hardware and software.
IPv6 is designed to enable the Internet to accommodate more addresses for users and additional applications.
Nortel said it also has worked with Ipv6 in trials with the US Department of Defense, the Internet 2 consortium, and other groups.
