In a throwback to old fashion selling, BellSouth is expanding a program to sell its communications services door-to-door.

Charlotte is one of eight markets targeted for the effort, which was launched this spring in Atlanta. The other cities are outside the Carolinas and Georgia. The company said it plans to expand the program across all nine states in its coverage area next year.

“We’re taking our products and services to the streets as never before because we’ve found that many consumers like to make their purchases face-to- face,” said Jan Funderburg, president of consumer services for BellSouth. “In today’s competitive marketplace, we can no longer wait for customers to call us. We must reach out to them and meet them on their doorsteps.”

Among services to be offered are high-speed Internet, long distance, and satellite TV.
