Internet Security Systems is including spyware blocking as part of its integrated security appliance.

Some 80 percent of personal computers are infected with spyware, ISS said, citing figures from the National Cyber Security Alliance.

The software is part of the Proventia Integrated Security Appliance.

“By blocking access to sites that knowingly distribute spyware applications, the Proventia Integrated Security Appliance prevents users from inadvertently installing it on their systems,” said Greg Adams, vice president of product development, at ISS, in a statement. “Preemptive protection is key in the battle against spyware and ISS is ultimately preventing the unauthorized release of personal or confidential information to an untrusted party.”
