The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University will become part of Napster’s online music and community networks in January, Napster said Tuesday morning.

As part of the network, UNC and NCSU will offer discounted Napster music services. The standard price is $9.95.

Also joining the network are Eastern Michigan and the University of Tennessee.

Napster launched the university program earlier this year. Other members include Vanderbilt, Penn State and the University of Miami.

Napster said it has worked with the Campus Action Network (CAN), a group facilitating the introduction of “safe, legitimate” digital music services to the campus environment. CAN is led by Sony BMG Music Entertainment and other record companies, works with a wide range of legitimate online music services.
