Sprint will invest more than $2 billion to upgrade its wireless PCS network, and $1 billion of that will go to Nortel.

Nortel said Sprint had renewed a contract covering three years to employ wireless hardware from Nortel for high-speed third generation (3G) networking applications.

Sprint is also purchasing equipment from Lucent for Internet-based calling as part of the project. The total upgrade package is estimated to be worth $2.5 billion.
