The University of North Carolina Center for Public Television is investing $13.2 million in upgrades to its facilities for high definition television production control rooms and studios.

Handling the project is Azcar Technologies, which is based in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Azcar was selected after a request-for-proposal process.

The project should be completed by the third quarter of 2005, Azcar said.

Azcar is working with other public broadcasting programs in Arkansas, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
