Voyager Pharmaceutical, which is focused on developing drugs to combat diseases related to aging, will open a new research lab in Research Triangle Park in January, the company said Monday.

Christopher Gregory, a former researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will direct the lab. The lab’s focus will be on will focus on combating Parkinson’s
Disease, Hormone Refractory Prostate Cancer, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
(Lou Gherig’s Disease), as well as improving fetal development in pre-term infants, the company said.

Voyager hopes to begin late-stage trials on a drug to fight Alzheimer’s disease next year.

Voyager is also pointing toward an initial public offering next year.
