WXYC, the first radio station to simulcast over the Internet a decade ago, will commemorate its first webcast with a concert and a compilation of sogns on Nov. 6.
The concert will take place at the Local 506 on Franklin Street.
The MP3 collection of songs is titled “Bandwidth: Celebrating 10 Years of Internet Radio on WXYC-Chapel Hill.” It includes 23 titles from such artists as SharkQuest and the Moaners. It will be made available online free of charge on Nov. 7.
The past and future of Internet radio will also be the subject of a panel discussion on Nov. 7 from 3-5 PM at the student union building. Participating will be David McConville and Mike Shoffner who configured the original webcast along with Paul Jones of ibiblio.org, who worked with them on the launch.
The station offers MP3 and other streams and recently began streaming over Internet2.
