The Weather Channel is setting up a sales team focused on desktop applications, the company said Monday.

Leading the effort is Jay Freshwater, who was database marketing sales director for The Weather Channel.

During August and September, The Weather Channel reported a 700 percent increase in its Desktop Weather downloads. The new sales effort is a response to increasing demand, the company said.
