The boards of directors at Red Hat and Cisco are a bit different today after each company announced a change on Monday.
Raleigh-based Red Hat has added Edward Kozel, a former chief technology officer at Cisco, to its board. Kozel is currently managing director of International Financial Ltd.
Kozel worked at Cisco for more than 12 years, serving as CTO, head of business development and an executive director. He also oversaw more than 20 acquisitions. Kozel has also worked for Boeing and SRI International. He worked at venture capital firm Open Range LLC for three years. Kozel is also a member of three other boards, including Yahoo! where he is chair of the audit committee.
“Ed has been at the forefront of research and innovation in the telecommunications industry,” said Matthew Szulik , CEO and Chairman of Red Hat (Nasdaq: RHAT). “His vision and intellect will add an important perspective as we continue to build the company. ”
At SpectraSite (NYSE: SSI), the tower and wireless systems operator reduced its board to eight from 10 with the departure of Robert Katz and Richard Masson. They represented Apollo Management and Oaktree Capital Management respectively. The two firms were major stockholders in SpectraSite as it emerged from financial restructuring last year. Both firms have since liquidated their ownership.
SpectraSite, which is based in Cary, named six new board members in June. Of the remaining eight members, six are independent directors.
