EarthLink is helping Macintosh users fight phishing schemes through the release of its TotalAccess 2005 for Mac users.

The phisher site block application is part of the ScamBlocker application which EarthLink makes available to its customers free of charge,

“The ScamBlocker feature included in TotalAccess 2005 is designed to prevent users from accessing known or suspected phisher sites by redirecting them to an EarthLink web page, which provides information about phishers and other online scams,” a spokesperson for EarthLink tells Local Tech Wire.

EarthLink says it is the first major Internet Service provider to provide both a phisher site blocking application, ScamBlocker, plus a real-time RSS feed for Mac users.

The software can be downloaded at:

The feature works with both the Apple Safari Internet browser and the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 for Mac. Through the new Protection module, Mac users can also access EarthLink’s Virus Blocker Web page.

The RSS-enabled news reader provides a real-time web content feed through both an application window and as a ticker that runs along the EarthLink provided Task Panel.

“Now members can access and quickly view their news, blogs or other web-based information, while filtering out unwanted advertisements, from a single, easy-to-use tool that can be customized to fit an individual user’s viewing preferences,” EarthLink says.
