Randy Robason, a long-time member of the Arthur Andersen firm, has joined Grant Thornton as the Carolinas Tax Practice Leader.

Robason most recently was with Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corp. (HSBC), the second largest bank in the world, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and on the Board of Directors for HSBC’s Wealth and Tax Advisory Services division. The former practice leader, Randolph Smith, will focus on client services as well as practice development.

“Randy is an old friend to many of us in the Carolinas,” said Mike McGuire, Carolinas Managing Partner. “Under his leadership at Andersen, the Carolinas Tax Practice grew to a “best-in-peer” practice in the firm. With Randy back at the helm and Randolph devoting 100 percent of his time to his clients and practice development, we will strengthen our position in the tax marketplace.”

Also, Grant Thornton named Brad Gabosch the Carolinas Assurance Practice Leader. He takes over for Ken Sharp, who is the firm’s Southeast Region Partner of Professional Standards.
