NewsFactore reports that the Gnome Foundation has released the latest version of its widely used Gnome Desktop and Developer Platform for Linux. Version 2.8 adds greater usability, speed and better internationalization to the desktop environment, the group said.

NewsFactor notes that Gnome is one of two main open-source desktops for Linux. It is the default desktop for Red Hat and several other commercial Linux distributions, and is the basis for Sun’s Java Desktop System (JDS).
