Vandevenne, who goes by Rik, will work with Ed McCarthy, director of River Cities, who operates in Raleigh. Vandevenne graduated in May.

Vandevenne worked with Scient and Accenture before enrolling at Duke. He also interned with River Cities.

“With his experience and education, Rik has the ability to evaluate companies from both a business and technology perspective,” McCarthy said in a statement.

McCarthy added that River Cities wants to increase its investments in the Southeast. The company manages more than $300 million. Its headquarters is in Cincinnati.
