Metametrics, the developer of the Lexile Framework for reading, says its program will be used as part of a English as second language program for more than 500,000 students in Japan.

Metametrics will work with SpeaKESL, which uses voice recognition and text-to-speech technology to help students learn to read and speak English. Two of the largest ESL schools and content providers in Japan use SpeaKESL technology.

The Lexile Framework matches readers with appropriate level text based on reader skill and measurement of the reading difficulty of more than 50,000 books and more than 70 million articles.
