COLUMBIA,Bandgap Technologies, a silicon wafer manufacturer and defense contractor, has been acquired by a Virginia-based firm.

Intrinsic Semiconductor, which is based in Sterling, works with materials and device technologies based on SiC (silicon carbide) and GaN (gallium nitride) in developing next-generation high power and high-frequency device applications. Intrinsic said the deal would enable it to offer a greater variety of SiC products.

Details were not disclosed. The companies said they assume all operations will be consolidated by the end of the month.
