Transoft, which helps companies upgrade enterprise applications, acquired a set of application migration tools from a Denver firm on Tuesday.

For some $700,000, Transoft acquired VMS and OpenVMS applications from Accelr8 Technology.

Transoft noted that some 400,000 VMS and OpenVMS systems remain in operation worldwide and Hewlett-Packard is dropping support of OpenVMS. Technical support ended for VMS in 1999.

“Transoft’s own research of the US market indicates that approximately 30 percent of all current VMS and OpenVMS sites are looking to move off these operating systems within the next three years,” the company said. The Accelr8 tools can be used for these migrations, Transoft said.

Transoft said it forecast the migration of VMS and OpenVMS as a market worth as much as $8 billion.
