Scientific-Atlanta reported a $70 million profit on Tuesday, including a 10-cent-per-share boost from a federal income tax settlement.

Otherwise the company (NYSE: SFA) would have had a 35-cent profit. That would have been a 4-cent improvement over a $47.4 million profit in the same period a year ago.

For the year, Scientific Atlanta posted a $218 million profit, or $1.41 share. That’s more than double 2003 earnings of $100.3 million.
