Tekelec is adding additional 3-G network capabilities to its switches for wireless network operators.
Tekelec, working with Spatial Wireless, is adding Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service (UMTS) to its Tekelec 8000 wireless multimedia gateway. Tekelec says the new hardware has already been used in trials by some leading carriers.
Tekelec can now support three wireless standards — UMTS, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA).
Fred Lax, Tekelec president and CEO, said the addition positions Tekelec “to support the growing needs of mobile operators as they increase network capacity and deliver next-generation features to subscribers.”
