Bolstered by a net increase of 31,000 in customers and helped by cost savings, EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK) reported a $49.7 million profit in the second quarter.
EarthLink reported earnings of 31 cents a share.
A year ago, the Internet Service Provider reported a loss of $15.3 million.
The company said it was in a position financially to expand new initiatives, such as Voice over Internet Protocol services and broadband.
EarthLink now has 5.3 million subscribers, up nearly 6 percent from 2003. Broadband customers now total 1.2 million, an increase of 21.5 percent.
