WAKE FOREST,Sprint plans to begin offering faster wireless data speeds over its PCS network beginning later this year, the company said Tuesday.
Sprint will deploy what it calls “anytime, anywhere wireless” at high speeds through Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) technology. The service will over average speeds at 10 times existing rates, to between 300 and 500 Kbps and as high as 2.4 Mbps for downloads.
Just when the service will be available was not stated. Sprint said it expected some markets to have EV-DO by the second half of this year and in the majority of the top 100 metropolitan markets it serves in 2005. Prices also will be announced later.
