Overture Networks is one of 10 companies to be named “Telecommunications Coolest New Companies” at the Supercomm show in Chicago.

Selections were made by Telecommunications magazine.

Overture is a developer of multi-service platforms for communications. It is focused on metro-area network services.

“Choosing our list of annual Hot Start-ups is always difficult and this year was no exception,” said Sue O’Keefe, editor in chief of Telecommunications, in announcing the winners. “Despite the still difficult telecom climate and tight VC wallets, our editors were able to find 10 companies with what we felt had the ingredients for success.”

Criteria for selection included product and architecture concept, financial backing, leadership and potential impact on telecommunications.

Overture’s products are designed to deliver fast Ethernet services without having to replace existing network infrastructure.

“In today’s market climate service providers are straining to generate new revenues while reducing network costs,” added Sean Buckley, senior editor of Telecommunications. ” In developing its patented multiservice access platforms Overture Networks has successfully changed the deployment economics for carriers in the metro market which has the potential to make the company a real leader in the industry.”
