Cisco announced a wireless broadband network solution for public sector agencies to use in metropolitan environments on Monday.

The Metropolitan Mobile Network offering is geared for city, state and federal agencies. The Internet Protocol-based network includes Aironet Wi-Fi hardware plus routers that include wireless cards for both local area network and wide area network capabilities. The 3200 Series routers have been “ruggedized” for outdoor use.

Cisco is offering the network as an end-to-end solution that can incorporate real-time data ccesss, video surveillance and secure communications. It also can incorporate wired infrastructure and can be modified to support both licensed and unlicensed spectrum, Cisco said.
