BellSouth is moving into the Voice over Internet Protocol services for business clients with trials of enhanced services in two markets.

Columbia, SC and Miami are the first cities to get the VoIP offerings. BellSouth said other metro areas will be offered VoIP services later this year, with the rollout to be impacted by the results of the first trials.

“Customers’ voice and data traffic will be carried on the private BellSouthÃ’ Regional IP Backbone, versus the public Internet, providing the enhanced security, reliability and quality of service that businesses demand,” the company said. “This network was built by BellSouth to support next generation IP applications like VoIP and Network VPN.”
